Legal requirements for a contract of temporary employment: In terms of South Africa’s Labour Relations Amendment Act, 2014 on temporary employment, as of 01 January 2015 an employee cannot be appointed on a temporary employment basis for longer than 3 months. With certain exceptions, such as where justifiable reasons exist, which may include the appointment of an employee to perform services in respect of an identified project or to perform a specific set of tasks.
