Summary An estate agent who wants to get a mandate from a seller to advertise and market a property for sale should use an Estate Agent’s Mandate form.
Who should use an Estate Agent’s Mandate? An estate agent can use an Agent’s Mandate to get authority from the landowner to advertise and market the seller’s property for sale. A mandate can help protect the agent against the loss of commission if the landowner tries to sell the property directly to a buyer who was introduced by the agent.

What does the agreement say? Amongst other things, the mandate requires the seller to provide pertinent details about the seller and the property. It also sets out the asking price for the property, as well as the calculation method on which commission is payable.
What does the form look like? The template can be printed onto three pages.
What do you need to do to use the Mandate?
- Read the template document to ensure that it suits your requirements. Make any changes to the agents authority as you may require.
- Complete all relevant details, such as seller’s details, property details and physical address, asking price and commission.
- Give the form to the seller to complete and sign.
